COMPARING TEASER TRAILERS - 'THE DARK KNIGHT RISES'

 The second teaser trailer I am going to be looking at is from the film 'The Dark Knight Rises':

'The Dark Knight Rises' teaser trailer focuses on setting a suspenseful tone for the film whilst withholding information about the plot. It uses many conventions of teaser trailers. 

The teaser trailer is designed to provoke interest and nostalgia by using some clips and images from the previous 'Batman' films in the franchise. This is because they already have a big fan base for the character and the film is part of a trilogy, so they can excite fans and get some buzz around the film. The trailer opens with clips from 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight' to create nostalgia and remind viewers of the character's journey so far. This reminds viewers of the previous films and possibly their enjoyment of them. 

The first new scene we see features Commissioner Gordon lying in a hospital bed. He says "Batman must come back". This sets the tension for Bruce Wayne to return to action suggesting he has been retired or absent. For viewers of the earlier films in the franchise this may excite them because they get to see Batman return, and for new viewers it evokes curiosity about the evil that needs Batman to face it. 

It also teases the villain with a very brief but powerful glimpse of the evil, revealing him momentarily for the first time in the film's marketing campaign. It presents him as intimidating and menacing showing that he will be difficult to beat. There is also a quick shot of him and Batman having a battle, sparking interest and buzz from viewers, teasing a major moment of conflict in the upcoming film. 

It is a very good example of a teaser trailer because it does a very good job at teasing the film without revealing too much. It would excite Batman fans. It also includes the title card/tagline "The Epic Conclusion" which makes fans feel they 'need' to watch it as it will conclude the Batman films and the character's story.

- Release dates - Summer 2012 - very vague which is common in teaser trailers

- Indication of genre - clearly superhero  genre
